There is much that needs to be done to create the ideal
chemical policy but I would say two of the essential elements would be (1)
acquiring accurate and complete data about exact ingredients in chemicals and
how they effect the health of humans, animals, marine life, plants, and
environment. The lack of transparency among companies that use/release these
chemicals is alarming. And (2) address the harm that has already been done and
decrease the levels of exposure among certain communities that have disproportionately
been harmed and enforce laws and regulations by making the companies be held
responsible for the damage they have done. An ideal policy will focus both
reforming current chemical exposure and
to be stricter on new chemicals that are created while also consistently
evaluating their effects on the environment. Another important aspect is to
look toward the future and how we can advance and use safer substitutes to
protect future generations.

Hi Marisa,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that we need accurate and complete data from companies. I think we need to hold companies accountable for their products, especially when it causes harm. I think by holding people accountable, it will lead companies towards creating products that are better so as not to lose their consumers.
Hi Marisa,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your two ideas. I think that getting accurate and complete data is important instead of using the "proprietary information" loophole. This would help us be able to further regulate these industries to ensure the safety and the sustainability of the environment.
Great post!
