M2.3: Household Products

The two household items I chose were Clorox lemon & lime disinfecting wipes and Pledge lemon enhancing wipes for furniture. I was expecting to be just as surprised as I was by my personal care products but according to the Household Products Database these two products have a minimal to slight health rating of 0-1. It was stated for both products that there is no known significant effects or critical hazards associated with use. That was a relief. One of my favorite household products I use are from the brand Mrs. Meyer’s which sell household cleaners,  dish and hand soap, laundry detergent and air fresheners.  This brand offers great products that are formulated with plant-derived ingredients with a biodegradable formula. I try to be a smart consumer when purchasing items for my home and also try to limit my waste. Everyone should be aware of the risks associated with products they use in their homes and be more conscious of the ingredients and chemicals that are emitted from daily product use. In homes these products come into contact with surfaces where you prepare and store food and certain air fresheners also emit toxic chemicals and those that are plugged into outlets have an increased risk of flammability. I look forward to continuing to learn more about our environment and how it impacts our health.

  1. I am so happy to hear that these products have minimal to slight health ratings. I use them in my home as well. I agree with you that everyone should be conscientious about the products that they keep and use in their home, because what they don't know might hurt them or the people/animals they love.
    Great post!
    Thank you-Kera

  2. Hello Marisa,
Thank you for sharing your findings! It makes me feel relieved that these additional products I use have minimal health effects. It's great that you are being a conscious consumer, which definitely helps in reducing your exposure to chemicals in other products.

  3. Hi Marisa,

Wow! I'm glad to know both products have minimal health hazards! I would have also expected them to have high ratings for chemical exposure. I've never used Mrs. Meyer’s products, but I'll be sure to look for them at the store next time I go shopping. Thanks for the tip!
